Day 10 – Hold’em if you’ve got ‘em

June 30, 2009

We had a poker tournament at work today and over 400 people from around the world signed up.

Its free to enter and the winner gets an iPod or something so I was never gonna get rich from it, but I had a couple of quid I’d finish higher than the guy who sits across the desk from me. We’ll call him “Daniel”.

Day 9 – Snatch

June 29, 2009

My tennis tipper, Jon suggested a Berdych win against Roddick at Wimbledon this afternoon and so I had a fiver on him at 7/5 with Boylesports.

In the end he lost in straight sets, but hey what can you do. In the immortal words of Bricktop from Snatch, “If I throw a dog a bone I don’t want to know if it tastes good” so when the tips don’t pan out I don’t take it badly.

Day 8 – How many DVDs do you own?

June 28, 2009

Yesterday’s tennis bets provided two small wins (£1.05) in total but and overall loss as the 9/2 bet was a loser.

I also had another £1 lottery ticket loser from last night too, but anyway, on to today…

My flatmate and I have lived together for a long time. I lived under his dad’s dining room table for a few weeks and then in the September of 2001 we got a place together with some other friends in West Hampstead.

Day 7 – Anyone for menace?

June 27, 2009

Yesterday evening I had £5 on Angel to be the 4th person to be evicted from Big Brother. She duly got booted out to a chorus of boos and I picked up 10p profit with my odds of 1/50.

Tommo warned me about taking such risks in future, with the chilling tale of a mate of his who had £330 on a 1/33 shot in last year’s house…and she stayed in.

Day 6 – England under 21 fun

June 26, 2009

Lady P and Tommo both reckon England’s under 21 team can beat Sweden tonight so I’ve had £10 at 11/10 with William Hill.

Last night saw the first disappointment of the campaign as I lost £51.50 playing Blackjack. This wiped out all the profit I made from it the other night and takes me down to a paltry £7 in the black.

It certainly made me think hard about the responsible gaming side of this project because I was guilty of breaking a couple of basic golden rules which compounded the loss.

Day 5

June 25, 2009

I’ve been asking around for tips and have taken up all but one of them (Brazil to beat South Africa at 1/12).

I have however had £5 on Kaka to score anytime at 11/8 with Boylesports.

Then a friend of mine owns a horse trained by Mick Shannon who also trains Alisa Carmel running in the 3pm at Newcastle so I’ve had £2.50 e/w on that at 6/1 with William Hill.

Day 3

June 23, 2009

Third day down and still feeling positive, particularly after a tip on the tennis proved fruitful and churned out a second-day-of-Wimbledon classic with Victor Hanescu beating Ivan Navarro 12 games to 10 in the fifth set on court five in SW19. Netting me an £8.64 return on my £5 bet at 8/11 and therefore a profit of £3.64.

Day 2

June 22, 2009

Today I took the easy option of Roger Federer to win Wimbledon. So, so far, so good.

8/11 again (I think – Willhill is down at the moment though)

Day 1

June 21, 2009

Today is my 34th birthday and every day for the next year I plan on gambling on something or other to see if, by my 35th birthday, I am considerably richer than I would have been if I’d done nothing.

To be honest I’m not sure if my chances are that high, but it’s worth a punt.
