Day 1

Today is my 34th birthday and every day for the next year I plan on gambling on something or other to see if, by my 35th birthday, I am considerably richer than I would have been if I’d done nothing.

To be honest I’m not sure if my chances are that high, but it’s worth a punt.

To start me off, my brother (who knows a thing or two about gambling) has bet me £10 I can’t do the whole year so I’m off to a flying start.

I also have £10 on Jenson Button to win the Grand Prix this afternoon at 8/11 with William Hill so I’ll be interested to see how he gets on.

And they’re off…

UPDATE – 8pm

Okay, so Jenson didn’t win and last night I played a few hands of Black and ended up losing a fiver. Luckily though I got a couple of good tips from Tommo (my brother) yesterday and they both paid out so I’ll count those as it makes things look a bit rosier.

He said I should back Art Connoisseur each way in the 3.45 at Ascot so I put £2 each way and it romped home to win at 20/1. Then I also had £2 e/w on Asset and £2 e/w on Knot in Wood in the 4.25 and Asset came second at 25/1 (although it was winning until Frankie bottled it!!). So for my £12 investment I won £81.50…a profit of £69.50

Therefore, the current standing is as follows:

Total bets: £10 (Jenson) + £12 (Ascot) + £5 (blackjack) + £10 (Tommo says I can’t do the whole year) = £37

Outstanding bets*: £10

Total winnings: £81.50

Current profits: £44.50

* things I’ve bet on which are still to be decided, which in this case is the tenner from Tommo.

Do you accept challenges in these bets? My proposed bet is that you cannot find a real person called William Hill, Stan James and Paddy Power (Patrick counts) and place a bet with them within the next 3 months – (any stakes including beer/sporting bets). Even money you cant for 5 English pounds?
