About Gamble of the day

My name is Andy and I like a gamble.

I play a fair bit of blackjack, backgammon and poker, own a few shares, play the lottery when I remember to get a ticket and also have the odd flutter on the horses and the football.

A modest win (£300) at the blackjack table made me think I was invincible…the subsequent losses to bring me back about level just made me think.

So I’ve decided to conduct a little social experiment to see if I can bet on something every day for the next year and perhaps more importantly whether at the end of the year I’ll be better off than I was when I started.

I’m prepared to bet on most things as long as they’re not life-threatening (at least to my life) and am hoping to find some unique things to back or lay alongside the horse races and roulette wheels.

I also hope to learn a bit more about the whole process to make me a more shrewd gambler. At the moment I find myself confused by the difference between 11/4 and 100/30 and what’s actually the better bet. This I need to overcome!

I can’t promise to be updating the site everyday as I tried this with my last project (Execution of the day*) and at times it can be really hard to motivate yourself when you’re not even sure who’s reading it. However, when I do update it I’ll provide details of all the bets since the last time I logged in as well as updating the running total of wins or losses.

If you have any ideas for things I could bet on, or you want to bet on something with me (and you have a PayPal account so the loser can pay up) than get in touch at andy@gambleoftheday.com. I have various accounts set up with different betting sites including William Hill and Betfair so I can meet you at one of their tables and I’m happy to open new account to play certain games.

* Please note, although similar in name, Execution of the day is actually one of the world’s most popular sources of information on the most famous and infamous capital punishment cases throughout history and NOT a list of people I’ve slaughtered.

You are a genius, and you write so well, what a great idea.
I hope you find the magic formula, but don’t succumb to those schoolboy errors!!

    Cheers

    Tony

Andy is not a genius Tony. I know, I lived with him for a year (not as lovers I might add, although Andy keeps claiming otherwise). But he is a very funny bloke.

Andy, if you are in the black on the final day and require one more bet, I bet you your winnings plus 1 pence that you end up in the red come year end. Keen?

Day 40 and not a donut in site. With a little concentration Andy that could be an easy 2 quid!

  4. George Sobek says:

Where’s the god damn donut? honestly….scaredy cat

Have you thought of changing the site slogan to “A WINNING bet a day makes it a better day”?

  6. George Sobek says:

I reckon with a little concentration you could end this lousy losing streak with a donut bet. Loser pays for the donut too, could be an easy 2 quid???
